WHAT IS OVERDRIVE?

OVERDRIVE is an app that allows you to borrow eBooks, audio books, and streaming videos anytime and from anywhere—all FREE with your library card.  All you need to get started downloading and reading eBooks, audio books, and streaming videos is an internet connection and a library card.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Picture

  2. 2. Choose the device on which you want to read, listen, and watch.
    1. 3. Once your app has appeared on your device, set up your account.  Click "Sign up using library card," then search for Pickford Community Library by name or location.  Once you've found your library, enter your library card and PIN number, and click "Add a title."

HOW DO I CHECK OUT A BOOK OR VIDEO?

You can search for a particular book or movie or use one of Overdrive's categories:
  • Subjects
  • Collections
  • Kindle Books
  • Kids
  • Teens
If the book or movie is currently checked out by another patron, you may place a hold on it, and you will be notified via email when your title becomes available.
If the book or movie is available, simply click "Borrow," and the following message will appear: "Success! This title is now checked out to you until ‎(book's due date appears here). See option for the title on your Loans page."  NOTE: You may also find your digital library loans via Overdrive's "My account" tab.
Your device will appear next to the book or video you have borrowed; clicking the device icon will take you to your now checked out eBook, audio book, or streaming video.

HOW DO I RETURN A TITLE?

  • Your digital loan will be automatically returned to the library in 7-14 days.  NOTE: The Overdrive default is 7 days, but you may change this in "Settings."
  • If you want to return it sooner, go to "My account," then "Loans."  Underneath your titles, click either "Return" or "How to return," and follow on screen directions.
  • If you wish to keep an item longer than 7-14 days, you may renew it.  Go to your LOANS page, and select "Request again" under the title you would like to renew.  NOTE: If the title has a hold on it, the "Request again" link will not appear.

WHAT IF I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT A TITLE?

No problem!  When you click on a title, you can read a description of it, view the publication information, see how many stars other patrons have given the item and read their reviews in addition to reading, listening to, or viewing a sample of the eBook, audio book, or video.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

  • You can create a WISHLIST of titles you want to check out.  Simply click on the title and then "ADD TO WISHLIST." You may then access your wishlist from your "Account" page.
  • You can RECOMMEND titles not currently in the Overdrive library.  Search for a particular book, author, or video.  If the Overdrive library does not currently have the item, the following message will appear along with photos of the item: "Didn't find what you're looking for? We can add titles that aren't in the collection to your search results so you can recommend them to the library for purchase." Below the item's photo, click "Recommend."  You then have the choice of being notified or having a hold placed on the item when it becomes available.
  • You can RATE any item by assigning it 1-5 stars .
  • You can view a HISTORY of titles you have borrowed.

CAN I LIMIT CONTENT VIEWING FOR MY CHILDREN?

Yes!  Once you have logged into Overdrive, click "My account" and then "Settings."  From there, you may choose the types of content you'd like to see while browsing and searching the collection.
